Purchased from dealer
  • Registration is completed by the dealer.
Private Party Sale (Previously Registered)
Iowa Registered: Registration does not need to be current to transfer ownership but a $5 penalty may apply (see Used Vehicle Fees).
  • Registration receipt or screen print from and Iowa County Recorders office
  • Title signed by seller
    • If the title has a notation regarding a lien, the lien MUST be released by the County Recorder listed on the title.
  • Bill of Sale signed by seller listing purchase price
  • Application for Registration (obtained at local County Recorder's office)
Registered Out of State
  • Need registration and/or title from previous state signed by seller
  • Bill of Sale signed by seller listing purchase price
  • Application for Registration (obtained at local County Recorder's office)
ATV/Snowmobile Never Registered in any State

New Vehicle Fees
January 1 - December 31 to end of current year:
  • $17.75 + Title and/or Lien Fees
September 1 - December 21 to end of following year:
  • $22.75 + Title and/or Lien Fees
Title & Lien Fees
  • Title Fees: $11.50
  • Lien Fees: $11.50
Used Vehicle Fees
With current registration, the fees for used vehicle are the same as new fees listed for new vehicles.

Expired Registration
January 1 - December 31 to end of current year
  • $22.75 ($5 penalty, $17.75 registration fee) + Title and or Lien Fees
September 1 - December 31 to end of following year
  • $27.75 ($5 penalty, $22.75 registration fee) + Title and/or Lien Fees
Title & Lien Fees
  • Title Fees: $11.50
  • Lien Fees: $11.50
A used vehicle in possession of a Snow/ATV dealer when registration expired will not pay the $5 penalty fee.
